Donald N. Reed Jr., MD, FACS. ,
The medical director of trauma services at Lutheran Hospital, Donald N. Reed Jr., MD, was instrumental in leading Lutheran Hospital to verification as a level II trauma center in July 2009.
Dr. Reed earned a medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1981. He completed a rotating internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Grand Blanc in 1982 and a residency in general surgery at McLaren General Hospital in Flint in 1986. Dr. Reed was a trauma/critical care fellow at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburg from 1986 to 1987, and he completed additional training in hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery and endoscopy at the University of Louisville in 1999.
Prior to his arrival in Fort Wayne, he practiced surgery in Flint from 1987 to 2004 and was a professor at Michigan State University's Department of Surgery from 2004 to 2007.
Dr. Reed, a former U.S. Army reserve officer who has served two three-month tours in Iraq, is board certified in surgery and surgical critical care. Subsequent to coming to Fort Wayne in June 2007 to lead Lutheran Hospital's charge for trauma verification, he joined Lutheran Medical Group in August 2009.
