Scott Mattson, DO, FACC, FASE, who is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and cardiac ultrasound, joined Lutheran Medical Group in 1999. Although a practicing cardiologist, Dr. Mattson devotes a substantial portion of his practice to the subspecialty pulmonary hypertension, caring for PH patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Mattson addresses all of aspects of this complex condition and is recognized regionally for his proficiency in treating it.

Dr. Mattson completed a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital/Medical College of Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh, where he was chief cardiology fellow. He also completed advanced imaging fellowships in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and in cardiac computed tomography (CT) at William Beaumont Hospital in Detroit, Mich.

Dr. Mattson completed an internal medicine internship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and Chicago Osteopathic Hospitals, and he completed an internal medicine residency at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, where he was chief resident. Dr. Mattson earned a medical degree from Midwestern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Ill., after earning a bachelor's degree in biological sciences at the University of Indianapolis.

Dr. Mattson, who is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Fort Wayne Center for Medical Education, serves as medical director of the echocardiography and cardiac MRI laboratories at Lutheran Hospital, and he directs the echocardiography and noninvasive cardiac imaging programs at LMG.

Dr. Mattson is a fellow in the American College of Cardiology, and he is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, the Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography and Alpha Omega Alpha, an honorary medical society. He is a delegate to the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, and he is a Northern Indiana Research Alliance board member and has been a principle investigator in several clinical trials.
