About
Alan C. Peterson, M.D., FACS, joined Lutheran Medical Group in January 2011 when his former group, Indiana Ohio Heart, joined LMG. Dr. Peterson joined IOH in 1982 and assisted in the development of northeastern Indiana's cardiac surgery and transplant programs. Prior to that, he served as assistant professor of thoracic surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center and as chief of cardiothoracic surgery at the Ann Arbor Veterans' Administration Medical Center. He also served as the senior registrar in cardiothoracic surgery at Great Ormand Street Hospital for Sick Children in London.
Dr. Peterson earned an undergraduate degree with Phi Beta Kappa honors from the University of Michigan, and he was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society at medical school.
In 1986, Dr. Peterson was one of 15 investigators worldwide in the experimental Jarvik-7 artificial heart program, and he was on the team that implanted northern Indiana's first artificial heart in 1987.
Dr. Peterson is a member of the Lutheran Hospital advisory board. He is a past member of the Lutheran Hospital medical executive committee and the Lutheran Foundation and the Fort Wayne Medical Society boards of directors.
