Trauma Surgery
Lutheran Health Physicians' trauma surgeons are part of Lutheran Hospital's Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Centers, which are verified by the American College of Surgeons. The surgeons are part of a multidisciplinary, specially trained team that has met stringent verification requirements and uses a coordinated, interdisciplinary approach to provide care that meets and often exceeds national standards.
Trauma surgeons treat patients who have severe, life-threatening blunt force and penetrating injuries. They operate on patients who are critically injured and oftentimes have multiple injuries to the colon, pancreas, spleen and/or stomach. Trauma surgeons work in conjunction with other surgical specialists to stabilize critical patients who have injuries that may be the result of a car crash, gunshot or stabbing. Trauma surgeons also available for consultations and referrals. They are responsible for care management of all multiple-injury trauma patients, which includes assessment, stabilization, the inpatient stay, discharge and follow-up.
