Urogynecology
Uncomfortable, troublesome symptoms of incontinence or prolapse are not conditions that women should simply learn to live with. Effective treatment can repair damaged pelvic floor areas, minimize symptoms and help maintain quality of life.
Solutions for Pelvic Health Issues
Urogynecologists specialize in the treatment of women with pelvic floor disorders, such as incontinence (leakage) and prolapse (bulging or falling). Treatment options range from non-surgical to surgical intervention, depending on patient preferences, the severity of the condition and the patient’s general health.
Conservative, non-surgical treatments may include medication, pelvic exercise, behavioral and/or dietary modifications, vaginal devices (also called pessaries), biofeedback and electrical stimulation.
Urogynecologic conditions and female pelvic floor dysfunction include:
-
Urinary incontinence (involuntary loss of urine)
- Overactive bladder
- Prolapse of the uterus, bladder, vagina and/or rectum
- Voiding dysfunction (urinary retention)
- Benign gynecologic surgical problems (e.g., fibroids, pelvic mass)
- Previous surgery without resolution of problems or recurrence
